November 7, 2014 – On Monday, October 27, 110 golfers gathered at Glendora Country Club for the 2nd Annual Golf Tournament supporting schools through the Glendora Education Foundation. Over 35 businesses supported the event as well, making this our biggest tournament to date! Gold Medalist and Glendora resident Bryan Clay served as tournament emcee thanks to our major sponsor, Azusa Pacific University. Overall, the tournament raised over $17,500 to go directly to programs making a positive difference for our children in Glendora schools!
The day began at registration where golfers signed in, bought mulligans and raffle tickets for a variety of amazing gift baskets, and received their goody bags filled with great items from our sponsors. While waiting to tee off, golfers could perfect their swing at the driving range, test the speed of the greens in the putting contest, and enjoy lunch provided by T-Phillips Alehouse and Grill. Glendora High School student Nicole Rehfeld sang the national anthem, the bagpipers led the procession to the course, and Bryan Clay spoke about his childhood experience in school before sending the golfers to their first tee.
On the course, golfers continued to support local schools by purchasing items, including tee shots by the Glendora High School golf team. At the end of the day, the winning team shot a combined 15-under in the best ball scramble format! Board Vice President and tournament coordinator Daniel Boyer said, “it has been amazing to see the growth of the tournament over the years, which shows such great support of our kids and our schools…add in the involvement of the Glendora high school students and it was a great success!” After the round of golf, participants enjoyed a great dinner sponsored byHoward Building Corporation while bidding on silent auction items and awaiting the announcement of the tournament winners.
With over $17,500 raised during the 2nd Annual Golf Tournament, the Foundation set a record and will be able to make an amazing contribution to our schools! This could not have been possible without the strong support from community members and businesses. Glendora schools can continue building brighter futures for all of their students. The Foundation would like to thank all who contributed to the tournament, including the dozens of volunteers, 10 hole sponsors, 24 tee sponsors, 110 committed golfers, Glendora Country Club, Platinum Business Partners Southland Properties and Wells Fargo, major sponsor Azusa Pacific University, dinner sponsor Howard Building Corporation, cart sponsor Inland Counter Tops, and the planning committee. See you next year for another great day of giving back through golf!
