June 3, 2015 – Food for Thought 2015: Investing In Brighter Futures
Glendora Education Foundation works toward investing in brighter futures for the students of the Glendora Unified School District, and one event that brings the community together in support of these efforts is Food for Thought, the annual dinner/auction gala benefitting the Foundation. This year’s event, held on Friday, April 24, was an enormous success. Thanks to the generosity of the Glendora community, over $150,000 was raised!
Two hundred and eighty attendees enjoyed the evening, which took place on the Sunny Grove Lane cul-de-sac. The night started off with guests enjoying cocktails and appetizers as they mixed and mingled with fellow supporters, all while perusing the silent auction displays. With over 100 items, guests were able to bid using anew mobile phone bidding application called “GiveSmart“. Guests were updated on the status of their bids with up-to-the-minute text alerts, while various Glendora restaurants served a fabulous meal. As attendees enjoyed their dinner, they were treated to entertainment by Citrus College’s “Night Shift” band, as well as various Glendora Unified musical groups.
As dinner came to a close, the live auction began. Art Ludwick served as the lively auctioneer who playfully encouraged guests to “dig deep into their wallets because it’s all for the kids!” And dig deep they did! The live action featured luxurious travel getaways, concerts, and other unique experiences. With the lift of their auction paddle, guests raised over $80,000 during the live action alone!
When asked what the highlight of the evening was, guests’ answers included the unique location, the amazing entertainment from the GUSD and Citrus College, the delicious food, the fabulous live auction items, the new and easy mobile bidding for the silent auction, and being able to help Glendora students. The night was an all around success!
